Istanbul
The t-shirt I am wearing here is my father's. He bought it in a commission shop in Belgrade, in the late 1960's. Yugoslavia at that time was very open towards the West, and my father (apart from being an architecture student) was a drummer in a band that resembled Beatles' music and british pop scene. So did their style, apparently. However, many years later, he married, got me, and I remember him wearing t-shirt very often, well into the 90s. It has still not changed the colour and the shape.
My father died in 2000.
I received a distinguished scholarship to continue my studies at University College London, and was participating last year in a summer school in Istanbul with the other chosen scholars.
My decision to wear Fred Perry tee the last day, for the ceremony of graduation, was partly made since my father wore it,as well, more than three decades earlier in Istanbul, on one of his trips with friends.(Also documented on a picture left somewhere in Belgrade)
Here we are, students, chilling out at Bilgi University, waiting for the ceremony to start, taking some last pictures, before we depart for the UK.
Thanks to my friend Selbi for taking this one.
I currently live in London and brought this t-shirt with me.
